New Type Multistage Centrifugal Extractor

The feed solution in Multistage Centrifugal Extractor initially carries one or more solutes and immiscible solvents of different densities. Two phases reverse into different overlapped stages of the drum; they can be fully mixed and separated in every stage of the drum, so maximally the solutes can go into the solvents from the feed solution. The results attained by the stages of every divided drum parts are roughly equivalent to theoretical results.

Advantages of the multistage centrifugal extractor:

The multistage centrifugal extractor has the following advantages compared with conventional equipment:

  1. Short residence time and small material retention.
  2. High separation factor and High liquid phase separation efficiency.
  3. It can quickly reach the balance of operation when you need to stop frequently, which helps intermittent operation.
  4. Simple structure and large processing capacity.
  5. The structure is firm and there are many stages in the drum (up to 5-7).
  6. Extraction efficiency (in theoretical stages) is never influenced by two liquid phase volumes and relative flow rate, and each mechanical stage is roughly equivalent to the theoretical stage.
  7. Stable hydraulic pressure simplifies the operation and reduces the trimming on the pressure of liquid inlets and outlets.
  8. Low installation cost (non-special base; drive motor drive multiple extraction stages).
  9. Save floor space and reduce plant area occupied by extraction equipment.

 

Working principle of multistage centrifugal extractor:

  • The feed solution initially carries one or more solutes and immiscible solvents of different densities. Two phases reverse into different overlapped stages of the drum; they can be fully mixed and separated in every stage of the drum, so maximally the solutes can go into the solvents from the feed solution. The results attained by the stages of every divided drum parts are roughly equivalent to theoretical results.
  • Two-phase liquid agitated by the fixed agitation plate of the drum center linked with the outer casing can fully be mixed up in the mixing chamber. High relative speed is formed between the fixed agitation plate and the rotating outer wall of the mixing chamber, which produces a good emulsification shear effect between the two-phase interfaces, promotes the establishment of phase equilibrium, and can quickly obtain the concentration of the solute even if the flow rate of the liquid phase is very fast. In the mixing chamber, the two-phase liquid already mixed can be completely separated by the centrifugal force. A pair of overflow weir stabilizes the equilibrium interface, and the balanced interface is independent, unrelated to the liquid flow rate. The overflow weir of heavy phase is replaceable and its diameter is selected based on the ratio of the two-phase density to optimize the performance of the extractor. Moreover, the range of two-phase density ratios accommodated by each heavy-phase overflow weir plate is very wide (from 1.20 to 1.35) to minimize the number of adjustments required.
  • The two-phase liquid enters the interior of the machine through a pipe mounted on the outer casing of the extractor. Therefore, no mechanical seal is required. The concentrated solvent (extract) and the extracted phase (residual liquid) are removed from the extractor by gravity or centrifugal force. By centrifugal force removal, the discharge pressure is generated. This allows more devices to be connected together to get more levels in more stages of use. When the machine is stopped, the liquid will flow out of the vent tube at the bottom of the machine and drain.
